Welcome to my site!
Over the last few decades our society has become increasingly affluent. We have more money to spend on things like wining and dining, and socialising with friends and family.
This is great, however it can result in greater calorie intake, especially with the current trends for “super-size-me” portions, and the increasing availability of fast food, confectionery and alcohol.
Recent popular wisdom resulted in the removal of a-lot of the fat from our pre-packaged foods, which was then replaced with sugar. From a health and weight loss perspective, this was a mistake.
Regrettably we’re also spending less time outdoors, and more time in front of our TVs, computers and mobile phones.
As you can see from the graphs below, these factors have resulted in a trend towards greater weight gain, and obesity in the larger population.
Unfortunately weight gain also goes hand in hand with diabetes, stroke and heart disease.
For example between 1980 and 2015, the rates of diabetes in the USA more than doubled from 3.7% to 8.7% of the total population.
As you may know diabetes treatment can require regular insulin injections, and the effects of diabetes can include nerve damage and occassionally limb amputation above or below the knee due to lack of circulation at the extremities.
I don’t say these things to create fear however, rather to increase awareness of the potential dangers, so that we can use this knowledge to motivate ourselves towards a healthier lifestyle.
What’s the Solution?
By focusing on healthy eating, portion size, as well as the timing and frequency of our meals, it’s definitely possible to turn this around.
Throw in some regular exercise and you’ll turbo-charge your efforts!
If healthy weight loss and feeling great is something that interests you, I’m sure you’ll find something useful here.
Healthy eating goes hand in hand with easy weight loss..
